Doughnuts.
Doughnuts are many peoples favourite sweet treat. They can be very easily decorated to look pleasing to the eye.
Shoot 2.
Inspiration.
The inspiration I took from these images are the soft pastel colours that gel well together. I love both the formal and informal compositions that both work very well. I love the black backgrounds but also love the messy sprinkling that breaks all rules of photography, however further entices you into indulging. I love the angle of how some of the images are taken so you can also see the side of the doughnuts that focus's on one but the whole image is still filled by the food. These images make you feel hungry, and even if you don't have a sweet tooth they still make you want to eat sweet foods. I think these images were created to advertise but on social media for blogs, instagram feeds or recipes. I like the white background on these images, that give more emphasis on the food, however I wanted my images to be warmer and more engaging, this is why I chose a pink background instead. I believe it is the white backgrounds that make the images look more like they are for a blog or recipe, taken in a kitchen, however I think with a pick background they look more like advertising done in a studio.
Contact Sheets.
The problems I came to when doing this shoot was, I didn't put the doughnuts close enough next to each other so there was too much white space. I also didn't like the bright pink doughnuts as they stood out from the rest of the pastel doughnuts.
Extra.
These images were both taken on my phone. As they were taken on the app "snapchat" I had the chance to upload them with a filter. The image of the left does not have a filter but the image on the right has a softening filter. This means the image loses definition, which is good for a quick glance but when compared to the other high quality images, it doesn't look as good. this is why I didn't include it in my final images.
Final Images.
I love these images because as much at they compete with the viewers feelings towards sweet food, they also challenge the 'perfect' view of advertising photography. Nowadays we can do almost anything with a composition, break rules and mess up a background in order to get an aesthetically pleasing outcome, that grabs the viewer. I like how I took a risk and took a few images from the side where u can see some of the dough and imperfections that were made when I iced the doughnuts.
