Shay Glover
In the first image I see two images side by side both of the same girl. The first image she has a neutral expression this is contrasted with the other image where her expression is smiling and happy. Glover called this collection “told you are beautiful.” This tells me that the person was told she/he was beautiful then Glover photographed the reaction. Glover captured a realistic moment/event that was used to experiment in society, to document. There isnt much colour in the image, as a close up face is the only thing captured. However, the background is blank and simple, making the face the only focus. There is repetition in both pictures, nothing else changes except the expression, which aggregates the expression again making it the only focus. The lighting is only on the facial features which forces the face to be the central main point. The images are a head shot which ensures the face is the focus making sure there is nothing to distract you from the purpose of the image. Shay Glover takes a picture of someone then tells them their beautiful, takes another picture to capture their reaction. Placing the two pictures side by side to allow you to see the contrast. This work makes me happy and smile because it is of someone else smiling, which passes over the positivity. I like it as it shows how you can easily make someone happy by just telling them they are beautiful. I think Glover is trying to expose society and show how easy it is to cheer someone up to even put a smile on their face. The collection also shows how everyone reacts differently. Some people felt awkward as if telling someone they are beautiful is a crime, therefore it exposes the problems in society. I think the work has been made for a exhibition or just a personal project.
My idea was to get a few different people some of which I was really good friends with and some who I just knew, this would create a different reaction and test the relationship between me and the person I picked.

The experiment with relationship worked because as you can see the reactions were very different depending on relationship. This shoot tested not only my relationship with the person but also the relationship with the camera and then with themselves.
Development
For development I decided to experiment with the reaction, asking many different questions, shouting things I knew would make them feel uncomfortable and squirting silly string at them.
